Melbourne is home of the largest sustainable-living festival in the world. In 2011 over 125 000 visitors attended to see live performances and films, to engage in talks and workshops,  and to raise public awareness about how we can reduce the negative impact we make on our planet Earth.

There are more than 350 performances and over 130 exhibits showcasing different methods and solutions that we can apply to help benefit the environment and improve our ecological relationships.

Hostels in Australia2012 will be the festivals eleventh year and since 2003 it has been held in Melbourne’s Federation Square. The festival itself is eco-friendly and has achieved a Gold Waste Wise standard, for the successful operation and execution of staging the event.

Because of the growing awareness of sustainable living, this year the festival has expanded not only to include the three day weekend festival in Melbourn, 17th-19th February 2012, but to all kinds of sustainable living events all around Australia, held from the 11th-26th February. These will include community events, tours of sustainable houses, conservation activities, DIY workshops, community gardening and much more!
